Food & Nutrition

Good nutrition is critical for helping children grow physically and mentally. The food we serve gives them the nutrition they need to focus, regulate their behaviour and have energy for the whole day. Teaching children good eating habits is just as important as feeding them good food, so we also help them learn about healthy eating during meal and snack times.

Our Child Care Menu

We serve brain food at our early learning centres! A qualified cook prepares your child’s meals every day, right from the on-site kitchens at Acacia Ridge and Strathpine. Our Sunshine Coast Service sources their food from a provider who specializes in catering for the early learning sector.

We recognise a healthy diet can improve behaviours critical to early learning and physical development. We provide nutritious morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas to keep your child focused and energised throughout the day.

Our long day care menu is informed by Nutrition Australia guidelines, to ensure the health and wellbeing of children in our care. All of our centres have an approved Food Business Licence to ensure they comply with the Food Act and Food Safety Standards.

What’s on the menu at Outside School Hours Care

“I’m huuuuungry” are words every parent has heard before or after school. Our OSHC service plays an important role in giving children the nutrition they need to start the school day and keep their energy up after class.

Our menus include a variety of breakfast choices over the week including, but not limited to banana and yoghurt muffins; corn, ham and noodle omelette; english muffin pizzas; vegetable pikelets; and bacon and egg wraps. Also available is a range of toasts including wholemeal and raisin, with a selection of jams and spreads.

YMCA OSHC implements Physical Activity and Nutrition Outside of School Hours (PANOSH) into day-to-day practice and adheres to the Smart Choices - Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Schools. This ensures our OSHC students get the stability they need to regulate their behaviour, the focus they need to learn and the energy they need to be active and have fun!
